BRIGHT prospect Brady Kurtz had to settle for second spot in the Australian Under-21 Championship at Gillman.

The Pirates new boy, crowned Aussie senior champion earlier this month, lost out to Jack Holder in the A final, with Max Fricke third and Jake Allen fourth.

Kurtz racked up no fewer than 14 points in his five qualifying rides at the Adelaide track, a total only bettered by Holder who was unbeaten.

Former Somerset charger Kurtz broke the track record in his first outing and suffered his only heat defeat to Holder in the eighth contest, despite leading in the early stages.

The 19-year-old was relatively untroubled in his three remaining qualifying rides but Holder – the younger brother of Wimborne Road favourite Chris – was not to be denied in the A final.
