NEW recruit Hans Andersen is confident he can beef up his average at Pirates following a tricky campaign at Coventry.

The Danish star saw his rating plummet by nearly two points despite helping the Bees make the Elite League play-off semi-finals.

Having started 2015 as the Brandon side's number one, Andersen finished in a second-string berth before electing to switch to the south coast.

And having secured a fresh start, the 34-year-old believes he is set for a positive campaign in Pirates kevlars next year.

Asked if he felt confident of improving his average, Andersen told the Daily Echo: "You only have to look at the last few weeks of last season – that is how I would normally ride.

"I know the overall season was a bit of a blip but I did have a few issues with some mechanical gremlins. I was still performing well in the other leagues in Europe, so it was just one of those things.

"I don't look into my average too much but I know it's opened some doors.

"I'm here to make a living and points make prizes and prizes make me happy. I'm going to do the best I can for Poole next year.

"We had a really good time at Coventry for most of last season but on other occasions it was not really enjoyable to be part of the team.

"If you are in a team that's winning and everyone is enjoying themselves, you do ride above your ability and, hopefully, that will be the case next year."
