PIRATES co-promoter Gordon Pairman insists he will avoid conflicts of interest when the Speedway Control Bureau meets Coventry officials tomorrow.

The SCB – the governing body of speedway in the UK – is due to hold a hearing at their Rugby headquarters over the events of the controversial fixture between the clubs at the beginning of June.

Poole triumphed 36-22 at a rain-soaked Brandon in a Sky-televised meeting brought to a halt after heat 10.

The Bees reacted furiously to a statement from rights holders Go Speed International on the issue and revealed plans to submit evidence to the SCB, with the club's ultimate aim to get the meeting restaged.

And Coventry officials have been invited to meet the SCB tomorrow with Pairman – one of four nominated members on the five-man bureau – the only Pirates representative set to be present.

However, Pairman explained that he would avoid taking part in discussions in which he had a "vested interest".

He told the Daily Echo: "I have confirmed that if there are any aspects that are a conflict of interest, I will step out of the room. I have made that clear to the chairman of the SCB.

"Any aspect in which I have a vested interest, I will not get involved in.

"I'm looking forward to the matter being put to bed once and for all."

Poole team manager Neil Middleditch, who submitted his observations when contacted by the SCB, believes the matter is on the cusp of conclusion.

He said: "I would be absolutely amazed if anything more came out of it and I can't believe they are wasting their time on it.

"I've been in speedway all my life and I've never known anything so ludicrous.

"I can't believe it's gone this far. I really don't know what Coventry are going to say to the SCB.

"Speedway meetings don't always take place in perfect conditions but if conditions had been dangerous then my boys wouldn't have ridden.

"Just because Coventry lost doesn't mean they have to have sour grapes about it."

Coventry team boss Gary Havelock admitted he did not expect a satisfactory conclusion from a Bees perspective.

He said: "I'm not holding my breath."
