DARCY Ward has cast doubt over a return to British speedway in 2015 – but did declare his intent to ride for Poole Pirates next season.

The banned Pirates asset is eligible to return to speedway from midnight on June 27 but a post from Ward on social media site Twitter today read:

Ward’s possible reluctance to make an immediate comeback in Britain could be a spanner in the works for Pirates promoter Matt Ford’s plan to get the 23-year-old back on a bike as soon as possible.

In an interview with the Daily Echo last month, Ford said: “Darcy is always going to be important to this club and if he doesn’t get in here, we’ll do our utmost to make sure he fits in somewhere else because we want him riding.”

Meanwhile, Ward's Polish KS Torun moved to end "unnecessary speculation" by confirming that the Aussie ace would remain with them as back up.

Speedway clubs in Poland operate a squad system with Ward available to come in to cover for injuries or loss of form.
