POOLE-based rider Brendan Johnson has announced he is to take an extended break from the shale sport.
The 22-year-old has quit his team position at Rye House and will play no further part in the Raiders' National League campaign.
Johnson, who had a brief spell with Poole Pirates in the Elite League last year, explained he had not taken the decision lightly.
He wrote on Facebook: "For the past few years I have struggled mentally on and off-track to enjoy my racing and to be the rider I know I can be.
"This is the hardest decision I have ever had to make. Speedway is in my blood and I will be back one day, possibly even next season.
"Thank you to everyone who has helped me, sponsored me and supported me. See you all again around the circuits when my head is back in it."
Johnson rode in five meetings at reserve for Pirates last year, scoring eight points in the process.
