GARY Havelock has warned Pirates they will face a recharged and resolute Bees septet at Wimborne Road tonight (7.30pm).

The Coventry boss is desperate to bite back after the reigning Elite League champions secured a controversial 48-41 win at Brandon on Friday.

Referee Jim Lawrence - who officiated at Havelock’s testimonial at Poole last year - incurred the wrath of the Bees team manager after excluding Chris Harris and Jason Garrity in heats three and 12, respectively.

Coventry’s misery was compounded by a paltry haul of two points from number one Hans Andersen as they failed to take advantage of the early withdrawal of Poole captain Maciej Janowski due to a knee injury.

And Havelock is targeting an improved result from his septet this time round.

He told the Daily Echo: “Even if you don’t take into account the fact our number one had an absolute shocker on Friday, if the two refereeing decisions had gone the way they should have, we would have won 45-44.

“I don’t think Hans is going to have another night like that. He didn’t ride badly, he was just unlucky with various things - blowing an engine while he was winning and stuff like that.

“I’d like to think we would be particularly determined to win on Wednesday in the light of last week and, hopefully, the riders will have the same mindset as me.

“It’s another day and a different referee so it’s probably going to be a different type of meeting.”

Coventry were one of just two teams to win at Wimborne Road in 2014 - King’s Lynn being the other - when they grabbed a 48-47 victory 11 months ago.

Havelock continued: “Poole is always a very tough place to come but we proved it’s possible to win there when we came from 12 points down last year.

“I believe strongly in our team and especially now that we’ve strengthened by signing Joonas Kylmakorpi. We’re looking quite solid. There’s no doubt we can win - whether we will or not is a different matter.”

Coventry will track Kevin Doolan in place of Stuart Robson while Pirates - who boast a 100 per cent winning record so far this campaign - will include Richard Lawson in their line-up.

The Lakeside rider replaces Janowski, who suffered a knee injury at Brandon and struggled on his return to action in his homeland 48 hours later.
