CAUTIOUS Kyle Newman refused to predict Poole Pirates’ 2015 trump card and insisted the unofficial title was up for grabs.

The Poole-born rider was given that label by pundits and supporters alike during 2014, a season in which he routinely terrorised opposition reserves.

And Newman, who won the rider of the year gong in recognition of his efforts, is unsure who will prove the key cog this time round.

He told the Daily Echo: “It could be any one of us with, hopefully, myself included. It genuinely could be any of the seven and that bodes well.

“I think we have a strong and balanced side with experience and youth, guys that have ridden here before and new riders that look very promising. I think we could be in for a very good year.

“The team is getting on well already and, hopefully, the morale will increase throughout the season.”

Kacper Gomolski, Dakota North and Paul Starke are new faces in the Pirates septet and Newman feels it inevitable that the trio will improve.

He added: “Everyone ups their game when they come to Poole. That’s just part of being at this club.

“You arrive at Poole and you know they are a winning club so you know you have to step your game up. You get that ethos when you arrive.”
