THE British Speedway Promoters’ Association has responded to reports that non-European Union speedway riders will be forced to sit out racing in the United Kingdom.

It is believed that all non-EU riders will be refused entry into the UK and existing visas will be revoked ahead of the new season.

It is thought that British speedway’s doubling-up and guesting rules are not compliant with the rules of the UK Border Agency (UKBA).

BSPA bosses this week met with United Kingdom Visa and Immigration (UKVI) officials to discuss the situation.

A BSPA statement issued via twitter said: “We are aware of reports regarding visa issues relevant to several riders and clubs for the forthcoming season.

“This is an ongoing matter and we intend to issue an update to clarify the situation in due course.”

A full statement is due to be issued later today.

At present it is unclear how Poole Pirates, if at all, would be affected.

The Wimborne Road side have three Australian-born riders in their 2015 line-up – Chris Holder, Dakota North and Davey Watt.

Watt is not affected as he has indefinite leave to remain in the UK but Holder and North's futures are unclear.

Queenslander Darcy Ward is another possible target, pending the result of his FIM Disciplinary Court appearance on January 30.

The Daily Echo has contacted the Home Office to clarify the situation.
