PIRATES star Maciej Janowski could be tempted to continue to ply his trade in England following a reduction in the Elite League fixture list.

Janowski played a starring role in helping Poole retain the title and stepped up to the plate to lead the club after Darcy Ward had been suspended.

The 23-year-old Pole, a firm favourite among the Wimborne Road faithful, had been one of a number of riders to express their concerns about the hectic schedule in England.

And Janowski will have added – and arguably more important – commitments next season having qualifying for the 2015 Grand Prix series.

But with Eastbourne having pulled out of the Elite League, Pirates will compete with seven other clubs and run 28 meetings instead of the 36 which had been scheduled at the start of last season.

This would significantly cut down on Janowski’s travelling and associated costs and could see him return to Wimborne Road for a third season.

The former Swindon and King’s Lynn man was runner-up to Kyle Newman in the Pirates rider-of-the-year vote but won a trio of awards at the club’s presentation evening.

Asked whether he would be keen on extending his stay at Wimborne Road, Janowski told the Daily Echo: “I hope so. I really enjoy it here and we will see what Matt (Ford) says.

“Firstly, I must do some planning for next season but staying at Poole would definitely be an option. If I sign in England, I probably wouldn’t sign in Sweden. It is too early to say now and we will have to see what happens.”

Meanwhile, Janowski, a keen football follower, said he was delighted to hear countryman Artur Boruc had join Cherries on loan.

“For me, he is the best Polish goalkeeper,” said Janowski. “I am very happy to hear he has signed for Bournemouth and maybe one day I can see him play for them!”
