PROMOTER Matt Ford has revealed suspended Aussie ace Darcy Ward remains part of his plan to track two of Poole Pirates’ three big guns in 2015.

Ford has Ward, 2012 world champion Chris Holder and Grand Prix newcomer Maciej Janowksi on his books but admitted it would be “impossible” to utilise all three under the Elite League’s stringent team-building rules.

Club talisman Ward faces an uncertain future with speedway’s governing body – Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) – set to sanction the Australian early next month following his failed alcohol test at the Latvian Grand Prix in August.

Compatriot Holder, who stood in when Ward got injured at the start of 2014, took a sabbatical from British speedway last season but has remained a regular presence in the pits at the Dorset club.

Janowski, a key component in Poole’s title successes over the past two years, cast doubt over his future having qualified for the 2015 GP series, although the Pole has since suggested he would stay on.

But despite Ward’s indiscretion and the wealth of options available to Pirates, Ford is adamant his star has a big part to play at Wimborne Road.

Ford told the Daily Echo: “Like Chris Holder and now Maciej Janowski, Darcy is a big part of the Poole family and the future of the club.

“We can’t possibly fit them all in, that is a certainty, but we do know that if one guy misses out then another can come in and become a hero.

"You only have to look at the likes of Kyle Newman and Vaclav Milik this year. There are one or two more in the pipeline and hopefully they will come along and do the same thing.

“No-one knows what will happen at Darcy’s hearing so it would be foolhardy to start making plans now. There are the rules of British speedway to consider as well.

“But if Darcy is riding in the UK, it will be for Poole, I just can’t imagine letting him go out to represent somebody else. That said, I can’t imagine allowing Chris or Maciej do that either.

“I don’t want to have to ride against any of them. They are Poole assets and Poole riders who are very loyal to club and none of them want to ride for anybody else.

“They have chosen to buy houses here so they have committed themselves to the cause. Clearly, we’re not going to get all three in the team but let’s hope we can get two.”
