TEAM boss Neil Middleditch has called for Maciej Janowski to re-enact his stellar showing in the Elite League Riders’ Championship when Poole Pirates begin their play-off bid.

Janowski secured second place in last night's individual event held at King’s Lynn, the scene of Pirates semi-final first-leg clash against the Stars on Monday.

Poole’s Polish star recovered from finishing third in the night’s opener to take top-two places in his other four qualifying heats, including victory in the eighth race.

Janowski, a former King’s Lynn rider, finished second in the semi-final behind Troy Batchelor, with Bjarne Pedersen third and Hans Andersen fourth.

The 23-year-old again trailed champion Batchelor but trumped Jason Doyle and Matej Zagar to secure the runners-up berth, a result that came as no surprise to Middleditch.

Poole’s man in the pits told the Daily Echo: “Maciej has had a tremendous season and did us proud at King’s Lynn.

“He has really come of age this season. Last year his Achilles heel was dealing with some of the smaller tracks but he has put those concerns behind him and turned into a world-class rider.

“It looks like he will be in the Grand Prix next season and rightfully so. From day one his work ethic and attitude towards British speedway has been spot on so his success has certainly not come as a surprise to anyone at the club.

“His performance was the perfect preparation for Monday’s meeting where hopefully he can show the same sort of form.”

Vaclav Milik missed out on the semi-final by a single point but wowed the crowd by taking the chequered flag in heat 16, beating Janowski and Batchelor in the process.

Janowski's place in the 2015 Grand Prix could be confirmed tomorrow dependent on Zagar’s performance in the Scandinavian Grand Prix.
