EX-POOLE skipper Davey Watt has paid tribute to former Pirates rider Malcolm Simmons.

‘Super Simmo’, who rode for Poole between 1975 and 1980, died on Sunday, aged 68.

Lakeside’s Watt, who used to be sponsored by Simmons, said: “Simmo was a genuine bloke. You don’t find many people like him any more.

“He told it how it was and you always knew where you stood with him – good or bad. He was a great man and a great rider and he will be missed by many.

“He always had that big smile on his face and that is how I will remember him. RIP mate.”

Ex-Wimborne Road star Alun Rossiter, who is now boss of Great Britain and Swindon, added: “He was always a very stylish and classy rider and his speedway did the talking.”

Simmons’s funeral is on Friday, June 6 at Medway Crematorium, Robin Hood Lane, Chatham, Kent.
