Pirates: Howarth's eyeing a place in Poole team

EMERGING talent Kyle Howarth has pleaded for a Pirates return by admitting: “I would love to show what I can do.”

The Poole asset is desperate to be back at Wimborne Road in 2013 as he bids to make his mark at the top level of British speedway.

Pirates chief Matt Ford has already hinted that Howarth could be in line for a doubling-up berth alongside Kyle Newman next season.

And top prospect Howarth, 18, has made it clear he would jump at the chance to again don the skull and crossbones.

Howarth told the Daily Echo: “I just want to say thanks to Matt, Giles (Hartwell, co-promoter), Middlo (Neil Middleditch, team boss) and Gordon (Pair-man, co-promoter) for giving me a shot this year. They are great guys and it is an awesome club to ride for, so I would love to be back.

“I would love to show what I can do. There is more in me and I am still only learning.

“I want to crack on next season, get a good spot in the Elite League and show what I can do.

“I just want to be injury-free, have another good, consistent year, and then go from there.”

Howarth finished the season with a flourish by registering a fine 12 paid 15-point haul from his last two Pirates appearances of the campaign.

The teenager signed off with seven paid eight against Coventry in the Dorset club’s Knockout Cup final second leg triumph. That effort included a scintillating heat 11 performance to help seal a convincing 5-1 over Coventry ace Chris Harris.

Howarth added: “It was nice to finish the season with a good meeting and with Poole, which is an awesome club.

“I was really stoked to beat a guy (Harris) who I look up to as a British rider.”

Pirates are unlikely to make any announcements on their 2013 team-building plans until after the British Speedway Promoters’ Association annual meeting later this month, where rules for next season will be rubber-stamped.
