MATT Ford tonight watched Poole kick-start their troubled campaign and then revealed he was close to completing a deal to sign Przemyslaw Pawlicki.

Promoter Ford expressed his delight after Pirates had claimed an impressive 50-39 win over King’s Lynn at Norfolk Arena.

The depleted Stars saw their perfect home Elite League record shattered as guest Tai Woffinden (14), Maciej Janowski (11) and Rohan Tungate (10+1) led Poole to their first away victory of 2013.

However, speaking to the Daily Echo minutes after the meeting, Ford confirmed that he was still planning to press ahead with team changes in a bid to get Pirates back in the play-off mix.

With injured number one Darcy Ward one of three riders expected to make way, Ford revealed that ex-Coventry star Pawlicki, the older brother of 2012 Pirates ace Piotr, was set to put pen to paper.

Ford told the Daily Echo: “I can confirm we have agreed terms with him and are awaiting the BSPA to sanction the signing.

“Our intention is that we will make up to, perhaps, two more changes to give the side a more balanced feel while Darcy recovers from his injury.”

Ford previously revealed that he had so far lined up two recruits, although he is yet to confirm which current Pirates riders will be dropped from any new one-to-seven.

With the threat of the axe looming, Pirates’ riders produced the type of result fans and club bosses had been crying out for against King's Lynn.

Niels-Kristian Iversen beat Woffinden in the opener before Richie Worrall and Josh Grajczonek combined to give the hosts an early advantage.

But led by ex-Stars man Janowski, Poole won four in a row – including a Woffinden-Dawid Stachyra 5-1 – to edge ahead.

Rory Schlein and Worrall beat world champion Chris Holder but with injured duo Mads Korneliussen and Seb Alden forced to withdraw, King’s Lynn’s 100 per cent home record started to look increasingly vulnerable.

Pirates came out firing after the interval and took control with successive 5-1s from Woffinden and Stachyra, and Holder and Tungate. The in-form Woffinden and Janowski then sandwiched Iversen to put Poole on the verge of a much-needed victory.

Tungate confirmed the win before Woffinden and Janowski produced a fine finish, with all attention now switching to the imminent team changes.
