BUCCANEERS new boy Karl Mason is eyeing more personal glory in the resurrected third tier four-team championship.
The competition was dropped last season when the old Conference League became the new National League.
But he says it has been put back into the calendar this year although the official third tier fixtures have yet to be released.
And Mason is hoping to repeat his success of 2008 alongside Bournemouth Castle Cover captain Jay Herne when they lifted the trophy with Weymouth.
Mason, who comes into Buccaneers’ team on a 6.50 average, left Newport under a cloud in late August last season after falling out with the Hornets’ promoters.
He said: “All the stuff that went on at Newport is in the past. I just want to concentrate on winning some trophies for Bournemouth.
“The four-team tournament has been put back on this year and me, Jay, Lee Smart and Brendan Johnson won it with Weymouth two years ago. So I want to defend the title at Mildenhall and keep it with me and Jay.
“For the last two months of last season I didn’t ride regularly, just here and there, so every time I got on a bike I was rusty.
“However, I’ve also had two more months to prepare my bikes and had a practice at Scunthorpe a couple of weeks ago.”
Herne, still recovering in Australia after undergoing a skin graft on a knee injury, has been told by his Premier League club Somerset not to rush back unless he is “100 per cent fit”.
Rebels have 5.84 to play with to bring in a short-term replacement for Herne, while Bournemouth can use a guest for their number one if he misses out on the start of the season.
