BUCCANEERS captain Jay Herne faces a race against time to be fit for the new season after sustaining serious injury in the Australian Longtrack Final at Tamworth.
Bournemouth Castle Cover’s ace had a big hole ripped into his leg next to his right knee when he was hit from behind by a fellow rider’s bike in the meeting at the weekend.
Herne, laid up in Tamworth Hospital since Saturday, said the gash was right down to the bone and that he had not been able to walk since.
He hopes to undergo a skin graft on Friday to move skin from the top of his leg or backside to the side of his knee.
