BUCCANEERS boss Garry May was keeping tight-lipped ahead of the unveiling of their final two riders for the new season tonight.
But speculation among some Bournemouth Castle Cover fans is that young Scunthorpe star Kyle Howarth is being tipped for a Wimborne Road berth.
The youngster, who celebrates his 16th birthday tomorrow, only made his speedway bow with Saints in the National League 10 months.
He immediately made an impact, culminating in grabbing second spot in last year’s British under-18 and 15 championships.
May politely declined to comment on whether the teenager would be one of two riders he expected to put pen to paper on Buccaneers contracts during a ceremony in front of fans at Poole Stadium tonight.
There is no arguing, however, Howarth would be a great signing on a 3.72 average, although Saints are likely to do everything in their power to keep him at the Eddie Wright Raceway.
The other rider supporters have linked with a move to Bournemouth on speedway website fans’ forums is Karl Mason, the 23-year-old ex-Weymouth man who averaged 6.50 for Newport last season.
Other riders who could come into the frame include David Gough, Marc Andrews, Alex McLeod, Ryan Sedgmen and Jamie Courtney. May and Buccaneers assistant manager Neil Vatcher will oversee signatures of the mystery duo during a speedway quiz night in the Champs Bar.
They’ll join confirmed starters Jay Herne, Dan Halsey, Mark Baseby, Aaron Baseby and John Resch in Buccaneers’ line-up.
The quiz, organised by Poole’s Rider Equipment Fund organisation, begins at 7.30pm.
There is still time to enter, either as a team of four or with individuals being formed into a team. Admission, on the door, is £4 (REF members) and £5 (non-members).
