ELLINGHAM and Ringwood flanker Poppy Cleall impressed on her England under-20s debut as they hit back from behind to beat Wales 17-7 at Guildford.
The Hampshire and South region representative forward is only 17 and a sixth former at Fordingbridge’s Burgate School.
Cleall was one of nine Ellingham and Ringwood under-18 players who helped South defeat West Midlands, Yorkshire and South West on their way to the regional National Cup final at Lichfield.
Charlotte Benson, Hannah Bryan, Jasmine Clarke, Lisa Cockburn, Megan Horwood, Gracie New, Rosie Tugwell and Georgia Welsh were the others.
South drew 0-0 with East in a thrilling final that went to extra time, meaning the trophy was shared.
Ellingham and Ringwood girls’ coach Steve Benson said: “Poppy’s England selection and our players’ remarkable achievements in the National Cup show how strong our squad is.”
