Lions slip after Harlequins loss

BOURNEMOUTH dropped to fifth in National Three South West after slipping to a 16-12 home defeat against Oxford Harlequins.

Michael Pope converted his own try to put Lions in front, before Puks Ngapaku’s touch down made it 12-3 at the break.

But Oxford’s Jeff Stewart slotted over two penalties and one conversion in the second half after Adam Pearson’s try had got the visitors back in the match after the break.

Lions: K Lynch, Hearson, Bruce (Dunkerley, 52), Chislett, Pope, Ngapaku, Bradley, Wareham, Wilford, Manning, Brooks, Burns, Armstrong (R Lynch, 73), Ford, Hughes. Unused sub: Webber.

Phil Graves played a leading role in Swanage & Wareham’s 33-20 win at Buckingham to complete the double over their South West One East rivals.

Graves had a 100 per cent record in the match with four penalties and three conversions.

Swans’ try scorers were Jon Blackmore, Darren Wilcox and Peter Sammons.

Swans: Dunsford, Blackmore, Graves, Parish, Wilcox, Brett, Sammons, Andrews (Sheldrake, 58), Elford, Woodard (Audley, 59), Burgess, Penney (Weld, 59), Jacobs, Tomes, Wright.

• Former Lions flanker Jayson Kenny helped spearhead North Dorset’s 55-0 victory over Minety in Southern Counties South.

The Slaughtergate outfit had Freddie Topping, Toby East, Adam Trevis (2), Tom Boterill, Dan Tite (3), Matt Williamson and Simon Keates (five conv) to thank as they ran riot against the league whipping boys. And Kenny made his presence felt on debut by helping set up William-son for the try of the match.

Oakmeadians’ faltering season went from bad to worse when they were beaten 38-14 at Wallingford in Southern Counties South, while Ellingham & Ringwood are third in London Three South West after easing past Sandown & Shanklin 35-3.
