DAVID Dunn has vowed to spring a few surprises when his team launch their defence of the regional title at this weekend’s Bournemouth Sevens festival.
Dunn’s Bournemouth Lions side won the South West Cup at last year’s inaugural event by defeating local rivals Oakmeadians in an action-packed final.
And he is plotting a repeat success when the action gets under way in the revamped South of England competition tomorrow.
Looking ahead to the Daily Echo-backed event at Chapel Gate, Dunn said: “We’re aiming to defend our championship and it will be a fantastic weekend for rugby and Bournemouth.
“We’re on top of the pile and everyone there will be shooting at us.
“I’d say we’re among the favourites but there are some good squads coming along and it depends on the day.”
Lions will lock horns with Oaks in the group stages, while the likes of Swanage and Wareham and Wimborne also take their places in the tournament.
Sam Hardcastle will captain the Bournemouth team at their home ground, while regulars such as Alan Manning, Robert Bruce and Scott Chislett are also in the squad.
But Dunn is keeping his cards close to his chest, adding: “We’ve prepared hard and there will be one or two surprises in our selection.”
For more information on the event, which is headlined by a star-studded National Invitation Cup, the National Netball Festival and live music, visit www.bournemouthsevens.com.
