ELLINGHAM & Ringwood pulled off the shock of the third round to book a place in the quarter-final of the RFU Women's Intermediate Cup.

They claimed the scalp of Old Albanians after registering a 17-10 victory over the former Premiership outfit.

Centre Maggie Hishon paved the way for the win over their Hertfordshire-based opponents when she finished a good try under the posts, which scrum-half Rosie Tugwell converted.

The hosts were rewarded for their first-half dominance with further tries from Tugwell and lock forward Amy Shipley to reach the break leading 17-0.

Old Albanians applied significant pressure in the second half with Kate Shelton crashing over for two tries as they reduced the arrears.

But Ellingham’s defence held firm in the last quarter to secure a memorable triumph.

Coach Henry Benson said: “I was really impressed by our first-half performance which, ultimately, won us the game.

"But I was equally impressed by the quality of our defence in the second half.

“We were delighted to continue our season’s unbeaten record, but we now have three tough league games in the next three weeks which will be vital if we are to achieve our main objective of winning a second successive promotion.”
