FORMER Bournemouth Rugby youngster Charlie Ewels earned praise from England coach Eddie Jones after playing his part in a thriller in Argentina.
The Bournemouth-born lock featured for 77 minutes of a pulsating 38-34 victory over the Pumas in the first Test in San Juan.
It was a fourth cap for Ewels, the first of which was earned against Fiji in November, and his contribution was noted by his boss.
Jones said: "Charlie Ewels ran the line-out well against a good line-out team."
England had been 31-23 down at one stage and replacement fly-half Juan Martin Hernandez thought he had won it for the hosts with a drop goal which made it 34-31.
However, England's replacement winger Denny Solomona, one of 10 new caps, went over for the match-winning try in the final minute.
"I thought it was an incredible game," said Jones. "For our guys to win was a tremendous effort.
"To show poise and stick to what we needed to do in the circumstances was an unbelievable effort from the young guys.
"When you are playing a full-strength Argentina team, I think it is one of the best team efforts I have been associated with."
The teams are due to meet in the second Test in Sante Fe on Saturday.
