FORMER Bournemouth Rugby youngster Charlie Ewels has been handed a place in England's Six Nations squad.

The 21-year-old Bath lock made his debut for the national side when he came off the bench in the thrashing of Fiji at Twickenham in November.

He went on to feature as a replacement in the two remaining Tests of the autumn series against Argentina and Australia.

A former pupil at Bournemouth School, Ewels has been chosen as part of a 34-man squad which will train in Portugal ahead of the opening match against France at Twickenham on Saturday, February 4.

There was no place in Eddie Jones's squad for former Lytchett Minster centre Semesa Rokoduguni, who plays alongside Ewels at Bath.

Head coach Jones said: “This time last year I said that the long-term strategy for England is to develop a side who can be the most dominant team in world rugby.

"I’ve been pleased with how the team’s progressing but there’s still plenty to improve on. We always want to get better, every training session, every game.

“At the start of last year’s Six Nations I probably didn’t realise the enormity of the tournament and how intense the rivalry is between the countries, so this year we’ll be better prepared for it and we are looking forward to being daring in our game against France."
