FORMER Bournemouth School pupil Charlie Ewels has been made to wait for his full England debut after being cut from Eddie Jones's squad.

The 21-year-old second-row was among a sizeable group of players to return to their clubs ahead of tomorrow's showdown with South Africa at Twickenham.

One of six uncapped hopefuls included in the squad, ex-Bournemouth Rugby youngster Ewels was sent back alongside Saracens duo Alex Goode and Alex Lozowski, Sale's Mike Haley, Leicester's Ellis Genge, Gloucester's Ben Morgan and Northampton's Teimana Harrison.

Arguably the biggest surprise saw Ewels's Bath colleague Semesa Rokoduguni also cut. The winger had been hotly tipped to earn his second cap with Anthony Watson and Jack Nowell both sidelined.

Former Lytchett Minster three-quarter Rokoduguni is on of the form players in the Premiership having scored five tries in seven games this campaign. But Jones instead favoured Gloucester's Jonny May and Harlequins' Marland Yarde.

Rokoduguni's team-mates Mat Garvey, Matt Banahan and Max Lahiff all subsequently criticised the decision to omit the 29-year-old.

Both Rokoduguni and Ewels could return to the squad ahead of the clash with Fiji in eight days, with the line-up likely to be confirmed on Sunday.

England face further internationals against Argentina and Australia before Christmas.
