KIRK Jones notched a hat-trick of tries as Swanage & Wareham recorded a convincing 50-14 victory over Southern Counties South rivals Blandford.

Alex Parry, Callum Young and David Elford registered their first tries of the season as Swans marked in style their first visit to Blandford in club history.

Number eight Jones opened the scoring, with Elford adding the extras, although Blandford quickly hit back to level.

Scrum-half Chris Tomes scored out wide to restore their lead before winger Parry extended it, with Elford’s conversion making it 19-7.

Fellow winger Young touched down following a blistering run, with Elford’s trusty boot ensuring Swans would hit the bonus-point score before the break at 26-7.

Jones went over twice in quick succession early in the second half as Swans established a commanding 38-7 lead.

A slick move by the three-quarters led to Elford opening his try account for the campaign before Blandford reduced the arrears with a converted try. Zach Wyburgh's try, converted by Steve Woolley, completed the scoring.

Swans: Smith (Woolley, 56), Young, Romanillos (Graves, 40), Elford, Warren, Tomes, Sheldrake, Elford, Audley (Wyburgh, 58), Collins, Raimont, Desmond, Dennett, Jones.

  • Wimborne suffered their third defeat on the spin in Southern Counties South after experiencing late heartbreak.

The Leigh Park side were beaten 29-24 by visitors Devizes on Saturday, conceding the decisive try with five minutes to play.

A depleted pack did not help the Minstermen but tries from Ed Carter, Doug Robertson and Keelan Stringer, all converted by Tom Moysey, should have been enough.

Moysey added a drop goal but Devizes touched down in the closing stages, with a Wimborne fumble at the other end soon after rubbing salt in the wound.

Wimborne team manager Dan Draper said: “While we are in a difficult period, we will continue to work hard in training before we go to Frome on Saturday.
“It will do our confidence the world of good if we can get a victory.”
