WIMBORNE continued their formidable start to the Southern Counties South campaign with a thumping win over Combe Down.

The Minstermen ran in no fewer than seven tries at Leigh Park to rack up a 47-3 success and stay top of the embryonic standings.

Wimborne have conceded just 11 points in four games, their defensive efforts not suffering one bit despite several key changes for the Combe Down fixture.

Jack Young celebrated his return to the first team with a couple of tries and stand-in number eight Ed Carter, Doug Robertson, Jordan Brown, Ollie Hamer and Tom Moysey also crossed.

Joe Bartlett kept the scoreboard ticking over with six conversions.

First-team manager Dan Draper said: "Although we made a poor start by our standards, we still managed to romp home.

"There was a man-of-the-match performance from our Ed Carter, who led our young side from the front with a fine display.

"We're very happy with our work and organisation in defence, which gives us a great platform to win games convincingly.

"That said, the most satisfying part of this form is the realisation from the players, coaches and managers that we still have areas to improve on."
