ED Carter grabbed Wimborne's only try in a 29-8 defeat to Devizes in Southern Counties South.

A James Mikolajewski penalty completed the scoring for the home side at Leigh Park.

The Minstermen finished ninth in the standings as a result of the defeat.

First-team manager Dan Draper told the Daily Echo: "We started poorly and never really recovered. By half-time the game was over as a contest and it was about gaining some pride in our performance.

"That pride shone through in the second half as we put some decent phases together and pressured Devizes.

"We were rewarded with a try but were unable to capitalise on some decent possession."

Draper added: "It's been a long, hard season and I think we are all looking forward to a break. That said, there have been signs we have the quality to be a stronger unit next season with some new faces on and off the field.

"With a very strong youth and colts set-up and the club being able to field three senior teams every week, the future is bright."

Elsewhere in the division, Dorset Dockers' fixture against visitors Bradford on Avon resulted in a home walkover. Dockers finished seventh in the table.
