BRAVE Swanage & Wareham were undone by a rousing comeback from South West One East high-fliers Salisbury.

Swans had led 14-5 at the interval but shipped three second-half tries and had to be content with a losing bonus point from the 22-19 defeat.

Salisbury were in front within 60 seconds when a rapid break saw Salisbury wing Dan Hammond cross over.

After 13 minutes, Swans hit back, a catch and drive allowing second-row Darren Penney to score out wide. Phil Graves added the extras.

The visitors were growing into the game and midway through the first period, scrum-half Chris Tomes forced his way over from close in. Graves slotted the conversion.

The Salisbury comeback started after the break when centre Christian Metson sprinted clear and scored close to the posts.

Not long after, a catch-and-drive move allowed Salisbury to regain the lead and a breakaway try following a mammoth clearance kick put the home side 22-14 to the good.

The visitors set up a tense finale when wing Pat Adkins crossed the whitewash in the corner but there were no further scores.

Swans: Smith, Adkins, Roberts, Graves, Barton, Brett (D Elford, 68), Tomes, Sheldrake, R Elford, Audley, Penney, Andrews (Meaker, 40, Smith, 63), Ford, Dennett, Jones.

Oakmeadians suffered a 31-0 whitewash at the hands of Bournemouth II in Dorset & Wilts One South.

Lions' second string – the runaway league leaders – have won all of their 19 league games this term.

Elsewhere in the division, East Dorset received a 50-18 thumping from visitors Warminster and Lytchett Minster banked a 38-12 triumph over Swanage & Wareham II.

Blandford won 17-5 at Frome II while in Dorset & Wilts Two South, Poole lost 76-12 at New Milton II.

Meanwhile, trials for Dorset & Wilts will be held on Wednesday, March 16 at Salisbury RFC (6.30pm).
