JOE Traynor's try double proved in vain as Ellingham & Ringwood suffered a 22-12 defeat at the hands of Hampshire One rivals Isle of Wight.

The Es crossed the Solent with a weakened team, which included a number of second and third XV players, and were unable to collect a losing bonus point despite their best efforts.

Traynor touched down to cancel out an early try from the hosts with centre Mark Burrett kicking an excellent conversion from the touchline to give the visitors a 7-5 lead.

But the Islanders scored two further first-half tries to make it 15-7 at the break.

Although number eight Traynor scored his second try, the home side went over a further converted try to complete the scoring.

Meanwhile, Sarah Bradley scored two tries as Oakmeadians registered a 17-5 victory over National Challenge South West One table-toppers Ellingham & Ringwood. Claire Dorey also touched down and added a conversion.
