WILL Croker says his new dual role at Bournemouth will allow him to get matters right on and off the pitch.

Head coach Croker, appointed as director of rugby earlier this month, now splits his time between the training field and assisting with the club’s commercial strategy.

Croker told the Daily Echo: “My new role is a crossover between the commercial elements of running a club and getting the rugby right on the pitch.

“We have to create a brand that we can sell, rather than just holding our hand out and asking for sponsorship money. We want the business community to support their local club.

“Our aim is to offer specific packages that cover the whole of the club and create a variety of opportunities for local businesses to be involved, such as that of community rugby sponsor.

“This will give interested parties value and a return on their investment either through publicity or strategic community support.

“We have to focus on these elements so we can create a budget that can support rugby in all of our sections.”

Croker added: “We want to create a Bournemouth Rugby Club that encompasses all areas of rugby for our town and opens the sport up to as many people as possible.

“We want to incorporate our touch division more, take advantage of a demand for disability rugby and capitalise on the demand for women’s rugby, bearing in mind the recent World Cup victory, by starting a women’s section.

“This role doesn’t mean that there is one rugby supremo, rather that there are effectively going to be section heads and each month they will report to me and we will then make decisions on how to take each section forward for the growth of the club and the rugby community.”
