A DEPLETED Swanage & Wareham side were condemned to a 47-5 defeat at Oxford Harlequins in South West One East.

The division's basement side were 12-0 down after 10 minutes following a couple of home tries.

And although Keith Tomes's men attempted to fight back, a catch-and-drive move allowed Oxford to touch down, with the conversion added.

The home side began to tear holes in the Swans defence and after 50 minutes they were 47 points to the good.

Swans finally got on the scoreboard in the final 10 minutes when a series of pick-and-go drives allowed Gary Smith to score his maiden first-team try. Phil Graves’s conversion drifted wide.

Elsewhere in the division, Lytchett Minster lost 20-0 at Bournemouth II and East Dorset were sunk 43-5 by visitors Sherborne II. Swanage & Wareham II were crushed 60-5 by Salisbury II.

In Southern Counties South, Dorset Dockers kept the heat on the top two with a 45-17 home win over Dorchester. Wimborne got the better of Walcot thanks to a 32-19 triumph.

Ellingham & Ringwood suffered a 66-11 loss at Millbrook in Hampshire One.
