SWANAGE & Wareham secured their first success of the South West One East campaign at the 12th time of asking thanks to a 15-12 victory over Reading.

It was Reading that struck first at Bestwall when a slick move put the visitors in for a simple converted try.

Having gratefully watched the away side miss a penalty, Swans forced the issue and from a line-out, a catch-and-drive move saw second-row Darren Penney touch down.

Reading extended to seven points their lead midway through the second half having scored a try out wide.

But Swans had other ideas and with five minutes left, Nick Audley profited from a catch and drive to bulldoze over and reduce to two points the advantage.

From a maul in the final minute, the ball was flung to Swans centre Matt Roberts, who shrugged off a couple of tackles and forced his way over the line to secure victory.

The conversion was missed but it mattered little for the delighted hosts.
