MISSED penalties and a forgettable first half proved costly for Bournemouth in Saturday’s 15-7 defeat at Lydney.

Lions were left to rue three failed kicks by Jack Parsons and could not take advantage of a pair of second-half yellow cards as the hosts ground out victory in Gloucestershire.

Danny Trigg nudged Lydney in front with a penalty after four minutes but Parsons could not match his effort with two of his misses coming at 3-0.

The home team punished the visitors by scoring the opening try after 27 minutes and almost claimed a second before being ran out of play 10 metres from home.

That proved to be a stay of execution, however, as Joe Carolan scored to the side of the posts before the interval with Trigg adding the extras.

Bournemouth fought back, despite their 15-point deficit, but Parsons missed another chance to reduce the arrears shortly after the restart.

Wyn Roberts got over the line on 48 minutes, an effort converted by Anthony Fitch, as Will Croker’s charges upped the ante.

But Lydney stuck to their task and Fitch suffered from Parsons’s curse, missing the opportunity to secure a losing bonus point.

Lions have now lost two of their opening three matches.
