FOUR Swans players notched their maiden tries for the first team in an emphatic 57-0 away win over Southern Counties South basement club Supermarine.

Winger Todd Stevens led the way with two tries, while debutants Jack Hogg and Ben Dennett both got on the scoresheet. Completing the quartet for the leaders was Zach Wyburgh.

Swanage & Wareham, who have a 17-point lead at the top, fielded a much-depleted side due to injuries and unavailabilities.

Following a slow start, centre Matt Roberts broke clear to open the scoring after 15 minutes against the Swindon-based strugglers.

Full-back Callum Baird, who took over the kicking duties from fly-half Charlie Parish, added the extras.

Swans continued to attack, and from a scrum under the Supermarine posts, prop forward Wyburgh powered his way over the try line.

Second row debutant Hogg completed the first-half try-scoring to give Swans a 21-0 lead at the interval.

Baird added to his points tally with a try of his own before skipper Robert Elford crossed the whitewash.

Another debutant wing forward Dennett was the next to score a converted try after 63 minutes.

Stevens, in only his second game at senior level, capped a fine away performance by scoring two tries in the later stages of the game.

In between Stevens’s brace, Roberts also scored his second try as Swans completed their rout.

“With all the problems with injuries and unavailabilities in the squad, I am proud of the lads that turned out,” said manager Tom Dillon.

“All of the debutants performed well as the tries they scored demonstrated.”

Elsewhere in the division, Wimborne’s top-two challenge stalled with a 34-8 defeat away to Midsomer Norton.

The fifth-placed Minstermen are now 12 points behind second-placed Salisbury, who won 26-9 at promotion rivals Sherborne.

  • Ellingham & Ringwood slumped to a 54-31 home defeat to London Three South & West rivals Old Mid-Whitgiftian at the Raymond Brown Memorial Ground.

The hosts made a promising start by taking a 24-5 lead before letting their Croydon-based visitors back into the game.

Old Mid-Whitgiftian reduced the deficit to just four points at the interval before taking advantage of a strong breeze to storm to a 54-24 lead after the break.

Charlie Cockram intercepted a pass to score Es’ final try to add to Dan Stewart’s double and other first-half tries from Mike Wood and Jack White. Es skipper Ali Bennett added the extras.
