Rugby: Swans thump Walcot

6:00am Wednesday 26th March 2014

SWANAGE & Wareham settled a score with Bath-based visitors Walcot on Saturday with a 37-7 success at Bestwall.

Victory for Swans, who suffered a 17-8 reverse to their opponents in November, kept them in fourth place in the Southern Counties South standings.

Despite taking an early lead with a Charlie Parish penalty after two minutes, too many handling errors in the first quarter denied any further scores.

However after 25 minutes, Swans went further ahead from a typical catch-and-drive move that led to captain Robert Elford putting them 10-0 up.

Walcot’s defence snuffed out any further scores by Swans, and five minutes later the visitors reduced the lead with a similar move of their own.

Parish put Swans 13-7 ahead with the final kick of the first half.

Playing with the wind in the second half, Swans dominated the early exchanges, adding two more tries from Chris Tomes and Kirk Jones.

Swans completed to their tally when Parish broke free to score and Elford notched up his second try.

Swans: Dunsford, Parry, Parish,Graves, Row- berry, Jacob Warren, Tomes, Sheldrake, Elford, Andrews (Wyburgh, 48), Corsie, Collins, Wright (James Warren, 77), Jones (Hogg 58), Desmond.
