Rugby: Wimborne wallop injury-hit Ivel
Wimborne amassed no fewer than 14 tries on their way to protecting the perfect start to the season in Southern Counties South with an 82-8 success over injury-plagued Ivel Barbarians.
The writing was on the wall as soon as Sean Murphy and Ryan Maidment ran in tries inside the opening five minutes with Richie Brokenshire, Jack Mason, Declan Foley and Jimmy Brokenshire, all adding further scores in quick succession.
Ivel then suffered more anguish just before the break when a series of injuries forced the referee to order uncontested scrums for the remainder of the afternoon.
The mismatched contest continued in the same vein with Jimmy Brokenshire quickly completed his hat-trick before Jamie Hawkings dived over the line.
And the scoreboard was soon in overdrive when Will Wright capped his home debut for the XV with a brace.
Jon Blackmore, Maidment, Jimmy Brokenshire and James Mikolajewski added further gloss to the score late on with Wimborne hot-on-the-heels of table-topping Wells who sit three bonus points ahead of the Leigh Park outfit.
The hosts conceded two converted tries before the interval but efforts from Charlie Rowberry and Kirk Jones kept Swans in contention at the break.
Charlie Parish’s kick reduced the arrears to one, but the visitors eventually ran away with the match as the second half progressed.
Oakmeadians continued their impressive start to life in Dorset & Wilts One South with a 15-10 success at Westbury while Blandford remain handily placed behind the leaders following their 30-7 triumph over Salisbury II’s.
Joe Tarrant scored a hat-trick as Ellingham & Ringwood recovered from a poor first half to win at Old Wellingtonians 50-19 in London Three South West.
Meanwhile, in Dorset & Wilts Two South Lytchett trounced Oakmeadians IIs 84-0 while Dorset Dockers trumped Puddletown 53-3.
