Budge's Bournemouth suffer away-day blues at Exmouth
BUDGE Pountney offered no excuses for Bournemouth’s first reverse of the season at Exmouth and admitted: “We were beaten by the better side.”
Lions never truly recovered from a nightmare start which saw Robert Fuller yellow-carded as the Devon outfit stormed into a 15-point lead inside 14 minutes.
Jaryd Robinson’s try was converted by Dan Pollard who also kicked a penalty but the visitors still trailed 23-10 at half-time.
Pollard’s second penalty on 55 minutes proved in vain as Exmouth continued to score steadily throughout the afternoon before Sam Hardcastle darted in for a late consolation that did little to cheer Pountney.
Following the 33-18 defeat, Bournemouth’s director of rugby said: “It wasn’t the greatest of games and we were disappointed because we saw it as an opportunity that we should have taken.
“We had a bad day at the office and didn’t perform. We were beaten by the better side and now we have to regroup and rectify the things that went wrong.”
Lions: K Lynch, Westcott, Robinson, Chislett, Connolly, Pollard, Hardcastle, R Lynch, Wilford, Spikings, Fuller, Peart, Rees, McDonald, Hart. Replacements: Manning, Heffer, Burns, Stewart, Sutherland.
