High-flying Wimborne hammer Oaks
5:31pm Tuesday 19th March 2013 in Rugby
JIM Brokenshire and Steve King starred as Wimborne maintained their hopes of a top-two finish by hammering local rivals Oakmeadians 62-0.
Brokenshire and King touched down twice each in a ruthless 10-try demolition of Oaks at Leigh Park on Saturday.
The result ensured the division’s leading points-scorers remained in fourth position in Southern Counties South, with two games in hand on the top three teams.
Brokenshire got the ball rolling against Oaks after 10 minutes before captain King drove over.
On the half hour, Oaks were reduced to 14 men with a yellow card issued for persistent infringement. From the resulting penalty, Sean Murphy extended the Wimborne lead.
Declan Foley scored before Andy Unwin and Brokenshire touched down to put Wimborne 38-0 up at the break.
Matt Warwick got on the scoresheet before King went over for his second of the game.
Further tries followed from James Mikolajewski and Tom Moysey, who also kicked 12 points.
