An empty department store could be given a new lease of life.
The Vergo store in Newland Street, Witham, closed in May 2010, ten months after the retailer took over the premises from the East of England Co-Op.
Prior to that, the Co-Op had been based in the town for about 150 years.
Nick Denny, executive officer for property for the East of England Co-Op, which still owns the building, said: “Discussions are currently progressing with an interested party.
“At present these discussions are confidential.
“We are looking forward to concluding discussions with a view to regenerating this site.”
