PIRATES' scheduled Elite League Grand Final second leg against Swindon has tonight been postponed for a second time.

The original date for the meeting was washed out on Wednesday after torrential rain lashed the Wimborne Road circuit.

And tonight's restaging was also wiped out just after 6pm after more rain in the Poole area.

The two clubs will try for a third time on Monday, with Pirates trailing by seven points following the first leg at Blunsdon.

Poole Coastal Aluminium's planned Knockout Cup semi-final first leg at Peterborough on Monday has now been put back until Friday, with the first leg at Wimborne Road on Wednesday.

Pirates chief Matt Ford bemoaned the incorrect weather forecasts which had predicted a clear night from around 6pm onwards.

He said: “Speedway tracks just can't take weather like this.

“The track covers were on until this morning but, then, you had some parts that were dry and some that were patchy. That makes it awkward in itself.

“Unfortunately, a decision was made to take off the sheets at that point in time but I don't know if it would have really helped too much anyway.”
