It is really exciting that this is a home Olympic Games. We are out in Cadiz at the moment to continue our preparations.
During training, we spend a fair bit of time in the gym.
The boats we sail are quite physical. The event we sail is quite long and includes a lot of short, sharp racing, so it is quite tiring, even just with the emotions of going through the whole event.
We generally train five days out of seven in the gym and sail a similar amount.
It is more or less an hour or two in the gym and then somewhere between three and six hours on the water. It can be tiring at times.
At different stages of the year, you can afford to be more tired. Over the next two months, we will put in a lot of hours and, in many ways, it doesn’t matter if we wake up tired because that is a good thing as we have to push ourselves.
Whereas, come the summer, we will start tapering a bit more and decrease our hours so we are fully energised for the events ahead.
Although none of us has ever competed in the Olympics before, we have seen the build-up previously.
I think it is fair to say the whole team is super excited about the chance of competing on home waters, and competing in front of friends and family.
There does seem to be a huge amount of interest, which is nice, and it is pushing us on every day.
Thanks for your continued support. It is much appreciated.
