FERNDOWN matchplay champion Dominic Knight will be flying the flag for England at next month’s schools home internationals.

The 18-year-old will tee up against Wales on Monday, August 20 at Pennard Golf Club in Swansea.

“I enjoy playing team golf and the experience playing at another level will be good,” said Dominic.

The two-handicapper won his place in the England School Boys squad after finishing in the top 16 at the final qualifier at Kendleshire Golf Club in Bristol.

He carded rounds of 76 and 71 to finish in 14th place.

Dominic had earned his place in the final by securing the 11th, and last place available, at the South West regional qualifier at Bristol and Clifton.

The final 16 players are split into two teams to play against Wales and Scotland. Each team of eight boys will be joined by four girls.

Dominic has just completed a sporting scholarship at Brocken-hurst College and is weighing up his plans for the next year.

“I’ve applied for a place at Bournemouth University to continue my sport and golf studies, but may take a gap year,” explained Dominic.

“There may be an opportunity to spend time in America. Brockenhurst College has good links with a university there, so I will see what happens before I make a final decision.

“My main target is get down to scratch by the end of the year,” added Dominic, whose handicap has plummeted from six to 1.7 in 18 months.

“Long term, I want to pursue a career in golf, either as a club professional or as a player, depending on how my game progresses.”

Dominic has represented Hampshire School Boys, while attending Brockenhurst College and is a Dorset colts player.
