Spurgeon makes good start to Mauritius Open

DORSET’S Kevin Spurgeon today shot a one-under-par 71 for a share of ninth place in the Mauritius Commercial Bank Open.

The Ferndown touring professional carded birdies at the fourth, 10th, 16th and 18th holes. His dropped shots came at the second, fifth and seventh.

He is four shots behind first-round leader and fellow Englishman Glenn Ralph who carded a 67.

Spurgeon has taken a break midway through his holiday in South Africa to take part in the first European Senior Tour tournament of the new season. The next date pencilled in isn’t until March.
