LUCKLESS Lee James never recovered from a broken driver on the eve of the European Tour Qualifying School as he failed to make the four-round cut in Spain yesterday.
“It’s been a nightmare,” admitted the Broadstone player. “I broke my driver on the range Friday night and couldn’t get a Taylormade replacement.
“The one I eventually used didn’t feel right and it cost me all week,” added James who carded rounds of 78, 67, 77 and 70 for an eight-over par total at the PGA Golf Catalunya Resort.
James was 11 shots off the qualifying mark that saw 75 players go through to the final two rounds in search of one of the 30 European Tour cards up for grabs.
The broken driver has also scuppered James’s plans to travel to South Africa later this month. He had entered the Dunhill Alfred Championship on the back of his 2009 Challenge Tour ranking.
Dorset's other European Tour hopeful Gary Emerson withdrew from the Qualifying School after 12 holes of his second round.
He carded an eight-over-par 78 on the first day and was 10 over par for the day on Sunday.
