ELATED Georgia Hall saw her exploits on the fairways rewarded with a top gong before admitting: "It means a lot to me."

The Wimborne-based 21-year-old was named female player of the year for Britain and Ireland at the inaugural Golf Awards at The Belfry Hotel & Resort.

Former Oakmead College pupil Hall sealed two points for Europe at last month's Solheim Cup off the back of a tied-third finish at the Women's British Open.

Third in the Ladies' European Tour standings, the ardent Cherries fan's superb form has also rocketed into the top 50 in the world rankings.

Reflecting on her award, she said: ā€œI was up against many of my great friends at the Solheim Cup so Iā€™m absolutely honoured to win this award.

"It means a lot to me and I appreciate it so much.ā€

Hall pipped Charley Hull for the award, which was voted on by thousands of UK golfers.
