MORE than 30 youngsters, aged between five and 12, took part in a two-day training course at Burley Golf Club.

It introduced them to all aspects of the game, including swing, chipping and putting.

Under the control of professional Gerry Teschner, assisted by Joy Menage and Gerald Crabb, they showed great talent and prospect for the game.

The second day ended with prize-giving with every entrant receiving a memento of the two days.

Will Fry, England Golf Club support officer for Hampshire, visited and congratulated everyone involved.

He was impressed and said it demonstrated a club which is moving in the right direction to draw new golfers into the game.

Burley Golf Club junior captain Aiden thanked Roger Stallard, the junior event organiser, for his hard work in staging the event and president Sandy, junior organiser Rod Prosser and all the volunteers who helped make the two days run so smoothly.

Teschner is holding a six-week assessment course for the youngsters and it is hoped they will continue to enjoy the game of golf for a long time to come.
