DORSET'S Sean Dimmick hailed his appearance at the 2015 Telegraph BMW Junior Golf Championship as “the best experience and event” of his career – despite finishing down the elite field.

The 16-year-old Dorchester ace, a member at Weymouth GC, returned scores of 74, 75 and 82 in Quinta do Lago, Portugal to finish eighth against some of the top juniors in the UK and Europe.

But Dimmick proved no match for eventual winner Jamie Li, who claimed a dramatic one-shot win over Stoke Park’s John Gough, finishing 20 strokes off the winning score.

Dimmick said: “It was my first time abroad and playing at Quinta do Lago was without doubt the best experience. It was also the best event I have ever played in. I couldn’t have asked for more.

“I was holing putts and my chipping was second to none all week. The greens progressed as the rounds went on. We learned a lot with being interviewed after the rounds and how to conduct ourselves. It was all brilliant.”
