FERNDOWN'S Hayley Davis stormed through stage one of qualifying for the Ladies Professional Golf Association Tour.

In scorching temperatures, the Baylor University student carded six-under to finish tied-fourth at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, California.

Having shot level-par in her opening two rounds, the former Brockenhurst College pupil fired a four-under 68 and followed that up with a two-under 70.

US players Bertine Strauss (-14), Megan Khang (-13) and Nelly Korda (-7) were the only competitors to finish above Davis, who has enjoyed a stellar 2015 to date.

The top 60 players from the field of 283 qualified for stage two which is due to take place at Plantation Golf and Country Club in Florida in October.

The final stage of qualifying is at LPGA International in Florida from November 30 until December 6.
