ROOKIE Georgia Hall’s superb start to the Buick Championship continued today as she closed in on the top 10 in China.
The 19-year-old, who is based in Kinson, shot level-par in windy conditions at Shanghai Qizhong Garden Golf in her second Ladies European Tour event of the year.
Hall enjoyed a glittering amateur career before turning pro last summer but her lofty position – tied-12th on the leaderboard – will still have surprised many.
Having teed off at the 10th, the Parkstone-affiliated teenager served notice of her considerable potential as she reached the turn at two-under.
And although a couple of bogeys set her back to level, it remained an excellent day’s work for the former Curtis Cup star, who is the second-highest-placed European in the field.
World number five Shanshan Feng extended her lead at the summit to six shots courtesy of a second-round 67.
Her nearest rivals are Stacey Keating and Xiyu Lin (both six-under) while Hyeon-Seo Kang and Marianne Skarpnord are one shot further back.
Hall is due to begin her third round at 9.33am local time tomorrow (2.33am GMT).
Parley Golf Centre-trained Liz Young is on course to make the cut after she fired 72.
