GEORGIA Hall’s heroics proved in vain as England lost their grip on the Miller Trophy at the Home Internationals in Scotland.

The Dorset star flew the flag for her country by registering no fewer than four of their 11½ points at Scotscraig in Fife, finishing as England’s leading performer.

Despite her efforts, holders England were forced to settle for third place after Wales scored a resounding victory in the three-day event.

Hall won all three of her singles matches – including crushing victories over Scotland’s Alyson McKechin (6&5) and Ireland’s Olivia Mehaffey (7&6).

The Remedy Oak ace also paired up with Lauren Taylor to claim a foursomes win (3&1) over Mehaffey and Paula Grant.

England, however, were on the back foot after losing their opening encounter against Wales with Hall and Taylor suffering a narrow one-hole foursomes defeat to Amy Boulden and Becky Harries.

Hall carded no fewer than five birdies over the final nine holes to gain revenge over Boulden in the singles (3&1), although she was the only English winner as Wales laid down a marker with a convincing victory (6½-2½).

Despite losing her foursomes match against the hosts, Hall wasted little time in seeing off Scottish champion McKechin in the singles, her convincing win taking just two hours and 20 minutes.

England recorded a narrow 5-4 victory over Scotland – their only success over the three days – before Hall banked two points in their 5-4 defeat by Ireland.

Having partnered Taylor to foursomes victory over Mehaffey and Grant, the 17-year-old right-hander put the finishing touches to an impressive individual showing by registering the biggest singles win of the tournament against Mehaffey.
